Having led the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 60-win season (and counting), Kenny Atkinson is a strong favorite for NBA’s Coach of the Year. However, he also might have unintentionally committed a minor heist.
On Monday, BIGPLAY and WOIO Sports personality Gabriella Kreuz shared a clip on X showing the Cavs head coach puzzled by a small, circular electronic device at the podium during his postgame press conference after Cleveland’s 127-122 win over the Los Angeles Clippers. Upon realizing it was a microphone, Atkinson reflected on a previous incident where he had mistakenly taken home a similar model, thinking it was something else. “What is this?” he inquired, holding up the small lavalier microphone. In response, Kreuz can be heard saying, “That’s my mic.” Atkinson then exclaimed, “I’ve got one of your mics! I’ll bring it back,” evidently aware of his error.
The former Brooklyn Nets head coach shared that he had been emptying his pockets at home when he discovered the microphone he had unknowingly taken. “I was like, ‘what is this thing?’ It’s like a tracking device,” he recalled.
“I thought it was a tracking device” 😭💀
Yesterday I caught a live react of the person who stole my microphone during a #cavs press conference last game: pic.twitter.com/RXRgBJSCoO

In Atkinson’s defense, the microphone in question — believed to be a Hollyland Lark M2 wireless lavalier microphone — resembles an Apple AirTag more than a traditional microphone. While it remains unclear why he picked it up after the conference, it’s commendable for the Coach of the Year contender to connect the dots and offer to return Kreuz’s missing microphone.
