Florida’s Thomas Haugh scored 20 points off the bench on Saturday, propelling the Gators to a Final Four appearance with a come-from-behind victory over Texas Tech. His performance drew notable attention from color analyst Stan Van Gundy, who offered some rather peculiar praise. “This guy is incredible,” Van Gundy exclaimed after Haugh made a crucial shot. “He’s made more money this weekend than Steve Jobs.”
A brief pause followed, during which Van Gundy seemed to recall that Steve Jobs has passed away. He quickly corrected himself, stating, “Well, we know that. He’s made more money than Jeff Bezos this weekend.”

We’ll give Van Gundy credit where it’s due; his correction was certainly smoother than Stephen A. Smith, who asserted he knew former Arkansas coach Nolan Richardson was still alive, even after referring to him as “the late great Nolan Richardson” and saying “God rest his soul.” Jobs, the co-founder of Apple, had a remarkable career, with his net worth estimated at $10.2 billion when he passed away in October 2011. Therefore, if making money is Haugh’s aspiration, Jobs’ impressive lead is certainly one to aspire to.
