Although the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t conclude their 2024 season with a Super Bowl win, both the team and its fans will be treated to an upcoming docuseries. ESPN, Disney+, and Skydance Sports announced Friday that they are developing a six-episode series focused on the Chiefs. This series aims to highlight “the franchise’s indelible and distinctive place in the NFL’s landscape for over six decades,” featuring legendary figures such as Len Dawson, Bobby Bell, Tony Gonzalez, Super Bowl-winning coach Hank Stram, and founder Lamar Hunt.
As is typical with modern sports docuseries, viewers can look forward to behind-the-scenes access to players, coaches, and executives. Filmed throughout the 2024 season, the series provides an in-depth look at the players both on and off the field. Produced by Words + Pictures in collaboration with Skydance Sports, NFL Films, 2PM Productions, and Foolish Club Studios, the project draws on the creative talents behind ESPN’s acclaimed The Last Dance.

Connor Schell, executive producer and founder of Words + Pictures, described the docuseries as a “remarkable opportunity” to chronicle the franchise’s journey. “No team in sports has been more captivating over the last decade than the Kansas City Chiefs,” Schell stated (via ESPN). “To go behind-the-scenes of the team’s modern-day dynasty with its signature stars, weaving that narrative with the Chiefs’ history and the incomparable legacy of Lamar Hunt, is an extraordinary chance.”
ESPN president of content Burke Magnus expressed that “sports fans are interested in stories that take them beyond the X’s and O’s,” noting that this series will explore the Chiefs’ legacy while showing the emotional ups and downs of building a championship team. “From the brilliance of Patrick Mahomes to the leadership of Andy Reid and the passion of Chiefs Kingdom, this project will showcase the drama, intensity, and heart that make this team a global phenomenon.”
While the series may not conclude with the desired happy ending, as the Philadelphia Eagles triumphed over the Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX, it’s clear that this team has solidified its place in NFL history, and a tribute series is long overdue.
