The Cleveland Browns are on a mission to improve, a challenge they’ve faced since returning to the league after losing their original franchise to Baltimore. This offseason, tensions peaked when star pass rusher Myles Garrett requested a trade, expressing doubts about the team’s ability to contend for Super Bowls. Ultimately, the Browns responded by granting Garrett a contract with the highest average annual value for a non-quarterback in the league at that time.
Now that Garrett is committed to the Browns for the foreseeable future, he emphasizes what successful teams need in the NFL. “Any team that’s going to go far needs a quarterback—one that’s young, can learn, and is willing to be patient with the process,” Garrett said on the Browns Radio Network, as noted in a video shared on Twitter by Content Browns. “There are going to be bumps in the road and learning pains. As a team, we need to be a landing pad for him, helping out on the defensive side whenever things go wrong.”
Unfortunately for Garrett and the Browns, despite recognizing the quarterback’s significance, they remain uncertain about who will fill that role next season. Deshaun Watson’s status is in limbo after a setback following surgery on his ruptured Achilles. With the second overall pick in next month’s NFL draft, the Browns are heavily linked to both Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward. Should they select one of these young quarterbacks, he will face immense pressure to turn the franchise around, both internally and externally.
