The “Mind the Game” Podcast Returns Featuring LeBron James and Steve Nash

LeBron James and JJ Redick launched their Mind the Game podcast last year to elevate the basketball conversation and focus on elite-level Xs and Os dialogue. A year later, Redick is now coaching James with the Los Angeles Lakers. While many assume the podcast served as a launching point for Redick’s coaching move, the show’s producer clarified that wasn’t the case.

With their collaboration in full swing, the podcast was understandably put on hiatus. However, it was recently announced that Mind the Game will return, featuring former MVP and Brooklyn Nets coach Steve Nash opposite James instead of Redick. New episodes are set to premiere on YouTube and Prime Video on April 1.

It’s logical for Redick and James not to team up for this podcast, as the Lakers’ coach and star player aren’t likely to disclose their playbook details publicly. While many players manage to juggle podcasting with their playing careers (aside from perhaps Paul George), it can be a different challenge for coaches. Just ask Doug Gottlieb about trying to coach while maintaining his daily Fox Sports radio show.

When JJ Redick was hired by the Lakers, he expressed hope that the show would continue without him. With Steve Nash now on board, it will be intriguing to see how he interacts with LeBron James and what insights he can share as one of the greatest point guards in history. If his involvement leads to another coaching opportunity down the line, it would be an additional perk.
