Awful Announcing’s quest to crown the Best Broadcast Booth in all of sports has now reached the Elite 8 phase! The remaining announcing teams certainly boast some incredible star power. If you’re curious about how we got here, you can check out the Round 1 and Round 2 matchups at those links.
In the Elite 8, we extend our congratulations to Kirk Herbstreit, the sole announcer left in the tournament with multiple broadcast teams. His college football pairing with Chris Fowler at ESPN is a top seed, going head-to-head with colleagues Joe Buck and Troy Aikman in one of the most significant Elite 8 matchups as Bristol’s premier broadcast booths clash.
Additionally, Herbstreit teams up with Al Michaels in a stunning Cinderella bid, having barely cracked the Top 10 in our annual NFL announcer rankings. Michaels will reunite with his former broadcast partner as they take on Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth.
Elsewhere, in a cross-sport showdown, Joe Davis and Greg Olsen face Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman. Meanwhile, two basketball teams from the NBA and college hoops collide, with CBS’s top March Madness crew of Ian Eagle, Grant Hill, and Bill Raftery squaring off against Kevin Harlan and Reggie Miller from the NBA on TNT.
