Pat McAfee seems to be reconsidering his stance on the NFL Draft. Earlier this month, the ESPN star made headlines when he announced he would not be bringing his annual “Draft Spectacular” show to Green Bay for next month’s NFL Draft, citing frustrations with NFL “middle management” during his hosting of The Pat McAfee Show at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Ian Rapoport hosted The Pat McAfee Show on Monday while McAfee was in Scotland for Monday Night Raw. McAfee joined the show remotely, and after discussing the NFL Draft, Rapoport inquired, “We’re not going to see you there, Pat?” McAfee responded, “The more and more I think about it, you know, maybe we do go shake their [the NFL’s] hands. Because it’s going to be an electric factory over there. That place is amazing. I can’t wait to see. And also who our guest host potentially would be would be a good thing to be over there. And it’s awesome what the NFL has done with the draft. So maybe we, you know, go shake their hands and make it happen.”
When McAfee initially made his comments, a media outlet reported that he felt he’d received “insufficient respect” from the NFL at the combine. McAfee quickly clapped back at that narrative, clarifying that he never used that term, mentioning that it was “basically the overall relationship” with the NFL that influenced his decision to skip Green Bay.
After Rapoport asked if McAfee’s change of heart constituted “breaking news,” McAfee took a jab at “aggregators,” saying, “It hasn’t happened. This is me potentially thinking about it. Obviously, the way this will get aggregated in the conversations and the half-truths that will get pushed out there.”
