As social media buzzed with unfounded rumors about her dating one of her ex-husband’s current players, Nikki Spoelstra took a decisive stand. In a video shared on Instagram, the ex-wife of Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra strongly denied any involvement in such a relationship. While refraining from naming him directly, her remarks seemed to directly address the viral speculation surrounding her and Miami Heat second-year forward Jaime Jaquez Jr.
“Y’all streets give me way too much power when s**t doesn’t go your way in pro sports,” the 38-year-old Spoelstra expressed in the video. “It’s one thing for you sports fanatics to come onto my page after I made a really big life choice and talk crazy, but it’s entirely different for you to come here to harass me and hurl crazy names over something— a rumor, a f**king story that is 100 percent flat out not true.” She further revealed that she had already spoken with the player’s mom and girlfriend, who were also mentioned in the rumor. Spoelstra humorously noted that the three women were “over here rolling our eyes at all you knuckleheads.”
Moreover, Spoelstra emphasized that she would never consider dating one of her ex-husband’s players for two specific reasons, although she opted not to disclose them. “You come over here with your dirty feet in my space, I’m going to address you and call you out. While your story might be entertaining with these plot assumptions, there are so many holes, and quite frankly, it’s just really bad storytelling,” she asserted.
Although the source of the rumor regarding Jaquez remains unclear, it gained enough traction over the weekend that Barstool Sports personality Kevin Clancy created a video to analyze it. In his video, Clancy highlighted the “ridiculous” nature of the rumor, noting that it stemmed from Spoelstra liking the UCLA product’s Instagram posts. Regardless of the rumors’ origins, they gained sufficient attention that the Becoming: HER host felt the need to address it publicly. Coincidentally, the 24-year-old Jaquez was removed from the Heat’s starting lineup on Sunday, which at least gives us one less potential explanation for his benching.
