On Friday, Mitch Rosen, vice president of Chicago sports radio station 670 The Score, announced on-air that veteran host Dan Bernstein “no longer works at The Score.” This announcement followed a strange social media incident where Bernstein threatened to disclose the name and address of a user who questioned his fishing practices, ultimately leading to his removal from the air and the loss of his board position at Camp One Step.
In the aftermath of Bernstein’s departure, former colleague Danny Parkins, who moved to FS1 last August, publicly supported him. Parkins, a long-standing figure at The Score, took to X to praise Bernstein, who dedicated almost three decades to the station, highlighting both his on-air prowess and personal qualities:

Here’s the text from his post: “I love Dan Bernstein. Dan was the first host who called to welcome me when I got my dream job at The Score. He is the smartest, funniest, and most talented host in the history of Chicago sports radio. Boers and Bernstein is the signature show in The Score’s history, and no single figure was more responsible for making the Chicago sports fan smarter. At his best, he’s the best. He’s an amazing father whom I learned a lot from about parenting. When my son was born prematurely and spent significant time in the NICU, Dan made a donation in his name and provided invaluable support. When my brother and father were dying and I needed to miss work on short notice, Dan volunteered to host 8 hours straight without complaint or compensation. Dan taught my 4-year-old son to fish and gave him his own Lightning McQueen rod, instilling the importance of catch and release!! (Sorry, I had to.) I’m proud to call Dan a friend.”
While Parkins didn’t directly criticize 670 The Score’s decision, he certainly expressed his concerns when Camp One Step, a Chicago-based program for children with cancer, removed Bernstein from its board:
What an awful decision. Dan has raised how much for your worthy cause? Literally over $1 million? Between on-air matches, awareness, emceeing, and growing poker tournaments etc. Actual tangible impact. And because of “comments on social media” you drop him? This hurts your mission & helps no one.

The recent fishing drama wasn’t Bernstein’s first controversy; he faced backlash last year for his response to a Barstool Chicago figure addressing him simply by his last name, which sparked seemingly critical remarks from colleagues. Nevertheless, many, including Parkins, continue to recognize his contributions. Parkins’ tribute is particularly significant as it not only acknowledges Bernstein’s personal friendship and support but also celebrates his exceptional on-air accomplishments, underscoring his status as “the smartest, funniest, and most talented host in the history of Chicago sports radio.”
