ESPN has made a significant move to enhance their NFL Draft coverage for the future by re-signing Matt Miller to a new contract. Miller, who joined ESPN in 2021, initially gained recognition for his writing at Bleacher Report before it became mainstream after being acquired by Turner Sports. In 2011, he was recognized as one of the company’s national lead writers and was acknowledged by ESPN NFL Draft legend Mel Kiper as a valuable addition to the network’s coverage.
With his new contract extension, Miller will share the stage with Kiper in the coming years.

Miller has made appearances both online and on television in Bristol, even taking a prominent role on the main set for Day 3 of the NFL Draft alongside Kiper, demonstrating the necessity of dedicated draft analysts for their expertise. With Mel Kiper having covered the NFL Draft for decades at ESPN, the question of who might succeed him in Bristol is becoming increasingly relevant as he approaches 64 years of age. While Todd McShay was once seen as the potential heir apparent, he was laid off by ESPN in the summer of 2023 and has since reemerged at The Ringer. Now, it appears that role may be filled by Matt Miller, though a lingering question remains about whether ESPN will retain the television rights to the NFL Draft by the time Miller is ready to take on the lead analyst position.
