San Francisco Giants’ esteemed announce team is remaining unchanged as Duane Kuiper, Mike Krukow, Dave Flemming, and Jon Miller have all signed contract extensions during the offseason. Alex Simon of SFGATE reported this development on Wednesday, stating, “The San Francisco Giants’ beloved broadcasting team of Dave Flemming, Mike Krukow, Duane Kuiper, and Jon Miller have signed new multiyear contracts this offseason, Giants president and CEO Larry Baer and Krukow confirmed to SFGATE on Wednesday,” Simon reported.
For over 20 years, this quartet has been the primary voice of the Giants, with Krukow and Kuiper focused mainly on television broadcasts, while Miller and Flemming predominantly handle radio. Kuiper began calling Giants games in 1986, followed by Krukow in 1990, the season after their playing careers ended. Except for the 1993 season, when Kuiper announced for the Colorado Rockies, they have been paired together ever since. Miller, who received the 2010 Ford C. Frick Award, started in 1997, while Flemming joined the team in 2003.
Krukow, who suffers from inclusion body myositis, is unable to make road trips with the team. Simon highlighted a significant change in his new contract that he is “particularly pleased with.” He mentioned, “As MLB has added more exclusive national broadcasts that take Krukow off the NBC Sports Bay Area airwaves, his new deal allows him to shift to the radio team on KNBR for games,” allowing Krukow to call all 81 home games this season and 23 away games from the television station’s San Francisco studio while Kuiper handles road games from the stadium.
San Francisco’s broadcasting crew was recognized as the best in the league by Awful Announcing readers in 2023 and ranked second in 2024. They have never ranked lower than second in any polls since 2014, notably finishing first in 2014 when the Giants won the World Series and in 2017 despite the team losing 98 games.
Given their long-standing tenure and immense popularity, there was never any serious doubt about the return of Kuiper, Krukow, Miller, and Flemming. “The neat thing about it is that it’s just an assumption,” Baer noted, as quoted by Simon. “Nobody would [doubt] that they’re part of the family.”
