The highlight show NBA Inside Stuff was a staple for a generation of fans, and it seems the iconic series may be poised for a revival. CNBC’s Alex Sherman reported that the NBA has filed two trademark applications concerning NBA Inside Stuff. The original show launched in 1990 and aired on NBC and ABC until 2006, while a reboot ran on NBA TV from 2013 to 2016. Sherman revealed that sources indicate NBC is contemplating a “refreshed version” of the show to accompany the NBA’s return to NBC next season, under a new 11-year broadcast deal.

NBC has already begun assembling a talented roster for its coverage, bringing on notable figures like Mike Tirico, Noah Eagle, and Reggie Miller. The network is actively running promotions for its coverage, signaling a renewed focus on basketball programming.
However, the sports television landscape is markedly different now compared to when the show first aired, which featured hosts like Ahmad Rashad and Willow Bay alongside Grant Hill and Summer Sanders.
The rise of the internet and social media has rendered highlight shows somewhat outdated, as demonstrated by the decline of programs such as ESPN’s Baseball Tonight. According to Sherman, the trademark applications suggest that the league is exploring both a new TV show and merchandise opportunities, with possibilities including platforms like YouTube or TikTok instead of traditional linear TV. “This is great intellectual property for the league,” trademark attorney Josh Gerben told Sherman. “I think it makes a lot of business sense right now.”
