Kevon Looney may not have scored a point in the Golden State Warriors’ victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, but he certainly saved a life, which is pretty significant. During a pregame interview with NBC Sports Bay Area reporter Kerith Burke, just before Golden State secured a 104-93 win, a rogue basketball came flying in their direction. With Burke unaware and facing away from the ball, Looney displayed remarkable reflexes, swatting the ball away just in time to prevent her from getting hit on the head.

Even more impressive was Looney’s ability to keep answering Burke’s questions during the incident. Burke quickly acknowledged what just happened, turning to the camera, pointing to Looney, and saying, “Thank you…man, thank you for saving my life!” While Burke’s life wasn’t in actual danger, the ball was indeed on a collision course with her head, which could have led to an unpleasant situation. Not only did Looney save her from an awkward moment, he also effectively averted the potential of a viral video capturing her getting knocked down.
Seattle Mariners announcer Rick Rizzs could have used Looney’s quick reflexes earlier this month when a foul ball sent him tumbling from his chair. Looney’s action was reminiscent of a viral video from over a decade ago, showcasing Evan Longoria saving a reporter from a foul ball. But unlike that edited moment, Looney’s reaction was all real—his instincts truly kicked in.
