Boston sports fans may not have been thrilled, but Chipotle enthusiasts received an unexpected treat during the Bruins broadcast on NESN. Midway through the second period on Tuesday night, the broadcast returned a bit late from a commercial break, but fortunately not so late that viewers missed any action. Just six seconds later, as Bruins center Morgan Geekie was setting up for a shot off a rebound, NESN surprised its audience by cutting to a Chipotle commercial just as the puck was approaching the net.

Play-by-play voice Judd Sirot didn’t have a chance to announce who took the shot. As fans at home leaned forward in anticipation to see if Geekie could capitalize on a rebound from Elias Lindholm’s shot, they were instead greeted with a visual of a big pot of braised beef barbacoa. No, you didn’t mistakenly sit on your remote or have someone change the channel—this was simply a brief blunder by NESN. Less than 10 seconds later, the game resumed, allowing Bruins fans to hear Sirot exclaim, “Rifles in his 19th! A power play goal! Bruins 3, Maple Leafs nothing.” While Bruins fans missed the moment the puck crossed the line, it’s questionable how upset they truly were. Considering the team’s disappointing season, and the fact that it was Chipotle’s delicious braised beef barbacoa on the screen, it’s safe to say fans would rather trade a goal for that than for a Filet-O-Fish.
