It’s uncertain whether Vince McMahon has any intentions of re-entering the pro wrestling industry, but if he does, it won’t be with Fox. On a recent episode of 83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff, Conrad Thompson heightened speculation regarding rumors of McMahon establishing his own wrestling promotion, aiming for it to be affiliated with Fox. He mentioned that McMahon has reportedly onboarded several former WWE employees for his production company and highlighted McMahon’s appearance at Super Bowl LIX, broadcast on Fox, as a link suggesting that the Murdoch-owned network may still have ties to pro wrestling.
“I don’t know if this is real or not — but the rumor mill suggests Fox may be reserving a spot for Vince McMahon,” said Thompson, who has strong connections within the wrestling realm. However, according to a Fox spokesperson contacted by Awful Announcing, these rumors lack substance, as the network is not in discussions with McMahon for a new wrestling show.
Despite airing these rumors on their well-known podcast, both Thompson and Bischoff voiced doubts regarding the feasibility of such a promotion. McMahon remains embroiled in a prominent civil lawsuit from a former WWE staff member alleging sexual misconduct that led to his departure from the company last year, and most leading wrestling talent is currently signed with WWE and rival promotion AEW. Nonetheless, Thompson and Bischoff acknowledged that just because they find it hard to envision the 79-year-old McMahon reviving another wrestling promotion doesn’t rule out his resolve to try. Fox’s public dismissal of the rumor underscores the obstacles McMahon would face in bringing any potential promotion to fruition.
