Behind Matthew Stafford, the Los Angeles Rams have two proven winners. So, why not stay the course if Stafford, who the Rams permitted to speak to other teams, believes there are greener pastures beyond Sean McVay and The City of Angels, feeling he’s done all he can with his second NFL team after leading them to a Super Bowl LVI victory?
If the Rams decide to move on from Stafford, ignore Sam Darnold due to budget constraints, and want to avoid trading too much draft capital for Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders while opting to stay in-house, they would be left with two options: Jimmy Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett. The mere mention of Garoppolo’s name may send shivers down the spines of some fanbases. LeSean McCoy, for one, was unable to contain his disdain and stormed off the set of The Facility when Chase Daniel indicated the Rams could consider moving forward with Jimmy G.

“I think the Rams are a little unreasonable in this situation,” stated former NFL journeyman QB Chase Daniel. “Like Shady said, just pay the guy. If he wants $50 million, he’s worth $55 million. But it raises the question of what the Rams will do if they don’t re-sign him: let him walk? Here’s what I’m hearing — and it’s crazy. It’s not Aaron Rodgers, not Russell Wilson; the Rams would be OK with Jimmy Garoppolo.”
And just like that, Elvis had left the building. “Where you going, Shady?” asked fellow cohost Emmanuel Acho. “He’s trash; I’m outta here,” replied McCoy. “I’ll be back, bro. I’ll be back.” Suffice it to say that Chase Daniel doesn’t share this sentiment, so don’t shoot the messenger.
Daniel continued, “I have heard that the Rams would be OK with Jimmy Garoppolo. We just had a whole conversation about Matthew Stafford leading them to the Super Bowl. At one point, you’ve got to say, ‘There’s no way Jimmy G is even remotely close to Matthew Stafford.’” You have to excuse McCoy; according to James Jones, he doesn’t enjoy discussing “weak dudes.” Ouch.
On a more serious note, simply swapping Stafford for Jimmy G doesn’t align with the Rams’ timeline. With the youngest, most formidable defense in the NFL and a roster full of playmakers — aside from Cooper Kupp — the Rams are positioned to win now. Based on ample evidence to the contrary, Jimmy Garoppolo likely isn’t the quarterback to maximize that window.

This brings context to McCoy’s dramatic reaction, especially considering that this was a franchise that once boldly declared, “F your draft picks,” to anyone who would listen. If the Rams choose to heed Shady’s advice, any quarterback with a pulse not named Garoppolo might suffice, including potentially Matthew Stafford.
