Some of the most exhilarating moments in sports, especially at the high school level, often come with passionate commentary. A prime example occurred last week in Illinois, where Lyons Township High School, located in the Chicago suburbs of La Grange, ended a 25-game losing streak against their rivals, Hinsdale Central. They achieved this in spectacular fashion with a half-court shot by junior guard Owen Carroll as time expired, following missed attempts from both teams, which elicited a highly emotional response from the announcers. Here’s the video of that thrilling shot, shared on X by Lyons Township teacher and coach Mark Kropke:

The lead-up to that final shot was incredible. With just over 24 seconds remaining in regulation, Hinsdale Central tied the game at 55 with a three-pointer. Both teams had chances to win with open three-point attempts but failed to convert. This gave Hinsdale the ball with less than three seconds on the clock, leading to a desperate half-court shot that not only went in but also triggered the memorable call of “OH MY GOD! OH MY GOODNESS!” from the announcer, culminating in a thrilling court-storming celebration.
As Grayson Weir noted at BroBible, the ending felt straight out of a Disney sports movie. Ironically, while such endings are often criticized for being unrealistic, they can and do happen in real life, as was demonstrated in this unforgettable Illinois showdown.
