Mike Greenberg Takes Down Aaron Rodgers Jersey from ‘Get Up’ Set

The disappointing Aaron Rodgers era in New York Jets history has come to an end, highlighted perfectly by a humorous segment on ESPN’s Get Up on Monday morning. Host Mike Greenberg, a passionate Jets fan, presided over a funereal ceremony as the show bid farewell to the No. 8 Rodgers jersey that had proudly adorned the set since his arrival in 2023, stating, “One of the things I’ve been asked a lot is what we’re going to do about the jersey. We put this Aaron Rodgers jersey up with the best of intentions.”

Greenberg acknowledged several members of the Get Up crew who are also Jets supporters, alongside guest analyst Alan Hahn. “We’re going to do a ceremony here,” he continued. “The bottom line of it is, I’m not ready to process the end of this era yet. We went into this with the highest of hopes and expectations, and I’m not ready to move on.” Somber music filled the air as Hahn stepped forward to lower a curtain over the jersey.

“Curtains on Aaron Rodgers’ era with the Jets,” Hahn remarked, as Greenberg dabbed his eyes with a handkerchief.

As emotions settled, the conversation shifted to special memories from the Rodgers era, with Hahn solemnly recalling, “That preseason two years ago was special.” It isn’t the first time Get Up has acknowledged the end of the Rodgers era; back in late October, after the Jets fell to 2-6 following a loss to the struggling New England Patriots, Damien Woody noted, “The Aaron Rodgers era is over … it’s time to blow this thing up.”

The Jets’ quarterback future remains unclear, and Get Up is now faced with the task of deciding what jersey will fill the void left by Rodgers. (Hint: It won’t be a Brock Purdy jersey.) The smart money is on another New York area sports star, and Greenberg took to X to solicit suggestions from fans.
