Children often have a remarkable ability to speak their minds, which was evident during Saturday’s spring training game between the Houston Astros and New York Mets. New York reliever Danny Young took to the mound in the top of the fourth inning, delivering a pitch that, as Harry Doyle would say in Major League, was “Juuuuuust a bit outside.” The pitch sailed well past Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez and reached the backstop.
Although it was only Ball 1 with no runners on base, Young’s misfire didn’t go unnoticed by one young fan, who quickly offered his candid assessment: “None of those. Those are bad pitches.” His comment was picked up by the broadcast, causing a momentary silence followed by laughter from the SNY crew.
