The Colorado Buffaloes have expanded their coaching staff this week, with Deion Sanders bringing in a familiar face for NFL fans—former veteran defensive tackle Domata Peko, who will join the team in Boulder as part of Sanders’ defensive lineup. On3 reported the news on Tuesday night, stating, “Colorado is expected to hire former Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Domata Peko as its defensive line coach.”
Peko had a notable NFL career from 2006 to 2020, spending 11 seasons with the Bengals, along with stints in Denver, Baltimore, and Arizona. Over his playing career, he amassed over 600 tackles and became a fan favorite in Cincinnati.
As the Buffaloes look to build on the progress made in 2024, they aim to improve upon their previous year’s performance, ending 2023 with a 9-4 record. Colorado star Travis Hunter captured the Heisman Trophy, becoming the second Buffalo to achieve this honor; the first being running back Rashaan Salaam, who won it in the 1994 season. While the Buffaloes will be without Hunter or Shedeur Sanders next season, they are still expected to pose a tough challenge for their opponents, aiming to build upon this year’s efforts. We’ll see what Peko can contribute to the coaching staff.
