This week, there will be no new episode of New Heights as Jason and Travis Kelce are taking a short break. After recording an episode following Super Bowl LIX, the brothers announced a brief hiatus but assured fans that offseason episodes featuring “amazing guests” would be available soon. The official New Heights account on X (formerly Twitter) shared a clip of Arnold Schwarzenegger praising the brothers, teasing the exciting return ahead.

While the Kelces have taken breaks before, the uncertainty of a set return date raises some eyebrows, particularly in light of recent retirement rumors surrounding Travis after the Chiefs’ 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Sports media figures like Dan Orlovsky, Nick Wright, and Ian Rapoport have speculated on the “real possibility” of Travis retiring if the Chiefs had secured a three-peat. With that goal unfulfilled, Travis’ future now seems more uncertain. As Ryan Clark recently noted, he may need to come to terms with being a “diminished player” at this stage in his career.
Although the Chiefs have urged Travis to decide on his NFL future sooner rather than later, it appears he is currently enjoying some downtime on a tropical vacation with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift. This could shed light on the podcast hiatus and Travis’ hesitation to discuss his future. Regardless, the conversation about his future is one that will need to happen eventually.
On the subject of Travis’ post-playing career, his aspirations clearly go beyond football. While many networks will likely compete to secure his services once he retires, Awful Announcing’s Ben Axelrod raised an intriguing question about whether Travis might be “too famous” to transition into sports media. When the time comes for him to step away from the game, it’s almost certain that he will address it on aarguably the most popular sports podcast in the game.
