Golf television’s two most cherished announcers are making a comeback for the second consecutive year. Former NBC golf analysts Roger Maltbie and Gary Koch will once again take on their previous roles during The Players Championship this March. Dan Hicks, NBC’s lead PGA Tour play-by-play announcer, announced this news during 5 Clubs on Golf Channel with Gary Williams on Tuesday morning.
This morning on @5ClubsGolf on @GolfChannel, @DanHicksNBC revealed Roger Maltbie & Gary Koch return for next month’s @THEPLAYERS coverage & Koch returns for @ValsparChamp, plus the unique insights @K_Kisner & @Johnwould will bring to this year’s Ryder Cup coverage on NBC. pic.twitter.com/jqscVUmuR8

Maltbie and Koch also made their returns for The Players last season, just over a year after NBC allowed the duo’s contracts to expire as part of a strategy to refresh its golf coverage. During last year’s event, Maltbie served as the on-course analyst, while Koch joined Mike Tirico in the booth for Thursday and Friday broadcasts. Additionally, Hicks mentioned that Koch will be featured during NBC’s coverage of the Valspar Championship the following week. If last season serves as any indication, golf fans will be excited to welcome back these iconic voices for one (or even two) weeks.
