After UConn dazzled and triumphed over South Carolina on Sunday, the Big East recognized one of the Huskies’ standout stars, Azzi Fudd. Earning Big East Player of the Week honors this week, Fudd follows the footsteps of her teammates, becoming the third UConn player to gain this accolade this season, joining Sarah Strong and the illustrious Paige Bueckers.
The Big East announced their weekly honor roll in a release. According to that announcement, Fudd showcased her talent brilliantly last week during UConn’s games against St. John’s and the highly regarded Gamecocks, scoring 28 points against South Carolina after netting 34 against the Red Storm. Suffice it to say, she was exceptional for the Huskies, who were eager to witness her at such an elite level.
As of February 17, UConn holds a record of 24-3 and sits atop the Big East standings. With aspirations to once again cut down the nets this April, the Huskies are a team to watch this March. Bueckers has been a significant factor, but the contributions from Strong and Fudd have been invaluable.
The Huskies concluded the week with a perfect 2-0 record against the Red Storm and the nationally-ranked Gamecocks, making Fudd’s Player of the Week honor all the more gratifying. Strong also made an appearance on the Big East’s Weekly Honor Roll.
