The Oklahoma Sooners have welcomed a familiar name to their coaching staff: former Ohio State offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, who will be joining Brent Venables and his team in Norman. This marks Wilson’s return to OU, as he previously coached on the Sooners’ staff under Bob Stoops from 2002 to 2010. On3’s George Stoia III reported the hiring news, stating, “OU hiring Kevin Wilson as an offensive analyst almost made too much sense,” he said.
Oklahoma aims to regain its former glory, having struggled under Venables in their first year in the Southeastern Conference in 2024. The situation was not helped by rival Texas adapting more smoothly to the new environment. Historically, the Sooners have been one of college football’s premier programs, maintaining a powerful presence in the sport and remaining one of the most successful teams of the 21st century, even though they haven’t won a National Championship since the 2000 season.
However, in the ever-competitive landscape of college football, teams are only as good as their competition allows them to be; excellence is not guaranteed. We’ll see if Wilson’s hire can help Oklahoma get back on track.
