Interviews in locker rooms often invite comments from nearby players, as was the case with the Philadelphia Phillies this past Saturday. Tim Kelly from On Pattison asked Kyle Schwarber about the prospect of him working as an analyst post-career, to which teammate Bryce Harper quipped, “Definitely don’t have the face for it.”

As noted by Kelly in his article, the commentary followed a video from last year in which Schwarber was the top choice among teammates for who might be the next broadcaster from their group.

Before the recent video and Harper’s comment, Schwarber expressed hesitation about the broadcasting path, showcasing his sense of humor when he remarked, “I probably have a face for radio, [and] a voice that’s probably made for home. That’s about it.” He acknowledged the professionalism of existing broadcasters while leaving the door open for future opportunities.
“I don’t know,” Schwarber admitted. “Probably not. I don’t like to really be in front of the camera. I’m not as well spoken as those guys. They do a good job. But yeah, I’m sure that there could be an opportunity later on down the road and see what happens.”
Following Harper’s remark, Schwarber added, “I told you, Harp. I said I got a face for radio. It would be fun when I get done and I can go to Cincinnati and watch Bryce play when he’s 42 and just bury him. But no, it would be interesting.”
The question of when Schwarber will finish playing is intriguing; at 31, he’s in the last year of a four-year, $79-million contract. Coming off a solid year with 3.5 bWAR and a .248/.366/.485 slash line, it’s likely he has several playing years ahead, whether in Philadelphia or elsewhere. His teammates’ belief that he could transition well into broadcasting, even amidst playful jabs, adds an entertaining dimension to his future prospects.
