The Washington Huskies strengthened their coaching staff on Thursday, as head coach Jedd Fisch made a notable addition by hiring JP Losman as the new quarterbacks coach. Losman, who enjoyed a successful career in the NFL from 2004 to 2011, previously shared a season with Fisch in 2010 when he played for the Seattle Seahawks. ESPN’s Pete Thamel broke the news of Losman’s hiring.
“Source: University of Washington is set to hire JP Losman as the school’s assistant quarterbacks coach,” Thamel said. “He’s a former NFL 1st round pick and played QB for UW coach Jedd Fisch with the Seahawks. He’s worked at both Clemson and Oklahoma in coaching roles, starting in 2017 at Clemson and since 2022 at OU.”
The Huskies are optimistic about Demond Williams emerging as their next quarterback. With Fisch bringing in transfer Will Rogers from Mississippi State to succeed Michael Penix Jr., the team is excited about Williams, a highly regarded recruit expected to start for UW in 2024. Losman previously coached at Clemson and spent time on the Oklahoma staff under Brent Venables before joining Fisch in Seattle. Fisch is hopeful that Losman’s experience will have a significant positive impact on the team.
Washington faced challenges in its first season in the Big Ten Conference after an impressive run that included defeating rival Oregon twice and reaching the National Championship Game. However, following Kalen DeBoer’s departure for the Alabama job and significant roster changes, Fisch found himself with limited resources in 2024. Yet, the optimism in Seattle is that 2025 will mark the beginning of a new and exciting chapter for the program.
