Kylie Kelce, much like her husband Jason, is thriving in her media career following the success of her podcast. She even appeared as a guest on Call Her Daddy, one of the largest podcasts globally, where she expressed her discontent with the WAG acronym that commonly identifies partners of professional athletes, standing for “Wife and Girlfriend.”
During her appearance, Kelce explained, “I think that it’s this suggestion that your spouse’s profession swallows you up as well,” emphasizing that both she and Jason have made a concerted effort to ensure that his career is just that—a job. “In the same way that someone would go to work and come home and not necessarily talk about their entire day,” she continued, “You’re filing taxes, you’re doing spreadsheets. Like, you’re not coming home and telling your spouse about, like, the spreadsheet you worked out.” Kelce also pointed out the negative connotation associated with the WAG label, suggesting it implies that women are only with athletes for their success.
“The vast majority, it’s so funny to me because it’s like, it is that stigma of you’re with them because they make a lot of money, or you want designer bags, or you want … you live in a mansion,” she remarked. Kelce shared her experience of having guests at their home who seem surprised by their lifestyle, stating, “I’m like again, not easily offended. I’m like, ‘Yep, that’s what you get.’” If Kelce has her way, she hopes that the term WAG will eventually fade from use.
