Bregman, a 30-year-old, spent his first nine MLB seasons with the Houston Astros, where he was a key figure in the team’s successes. He holds a .272 career batting average with 199 home runs and was selected for the AL All-Star team in both 2018 and 2019, finishing second in AL MVP voting in 2019. He also excelled in the postseason, contributing to the Astros’ undefeated record in seven ALDS appearances, hitting .333 with eight home runs and driving in 20 runs over 27 games, resulting in two championships.
This signing follows a lengthy offseason filled with speculation, as Bregman was reportedly willing to wait for the right deal. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale noted that both the Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers also made substantial offers.

Having missed the playoffs for the past three seasons, the Red Sox hope that Bregman’s arrival will help turn their fortunes around.
