Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant has garnered a remarkable list of accolades during his impressive NBA career. The 36-year-old has been named NBA MVP (2014), a two-time NBA Champion (2017, 2018), a two-time NBA Finals MVP, and a 15-time NBA All-Star. On Tuesday night, in Phoenix’s 119-112 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, Durant reached another milestone by scoring a free throw in the third quarter, becoming the eighth player in NBA history to amass 30,000 points.

Joining the ranks of LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki, and Wilt Chamberlain, Durant expressed his gratitude: “A true honor to be in the same category as those players who helped shape the game and push the game forward. That’s always been my goal, to get the most out of myself every day and the most out of my career,” he stated post-game via ESPN.
Durant, a four-time NBA scoring champion, last led the league in points per game during the 2013-14 season with an average of 32.0. Looking ahead, it’s challenging to predict where he might land on the all-time scoring leaderboard. With an average of 65 games played per season and a career scoring average of 27.3 points per game, if he maintains these stats over the next two seasons, he could potentially reach 33,557 points, placing him just 100 points shy of Kobe Bryant for fourth all-time. However, surpassing Malone’s 36,928 points would be a considerable leap.
Social media buzzed with congratulations for Durant.

Congratulations to my brother @KDTrey5 on reaching the 30K points club. It was only a matter of time. There are teammates that you become friends with during your time together then there’s teammates like KD, who become your brother for life. Continue your greatness!!
