During Super Bowl LIX, while Saquon Barkley was focused on the game, he couldn’t help but notice the crowd booing Taylor Swift, which he found unfortunate. After contributing to the Philadelphia Eagles’ impressive 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, Barkley appeared on The Howard Stern Show Wednesday morning on SiriusXM.
When asked by Stern if he thought Travis Kelce might soon propose to Swift, Barkley refrained from evaluating their relationship. However, he expressed his confusion regarding the treatment of Swift by some NFL fans, stating, “I remember that they showed her on the jumbotron and she got booed. I don’t get it. I don’t get why she was getting hate there. She’s just there supporting her significant other and she’s made the game bigger.” He emphasized that in football, the goal is to expand the game internationally, noting the NFL’s efforts in Brazil, Mexico, and Australia, and added that Swift’s presence only helps in promoting that expansion.
Swift experienced loud boos at Super Bowl LIX, with Donald Trump claiming responsibility for the negative reception, possibly exacerbated by Eagles fans who feel let down by the Pennsylvania native’s support for the Chiefs. Since her relationship with Kelce became public two seasons ago, many NFL fans have struggled to accept her as a genuine football supporter.
The NFL appears to welcome Swift’s interest, yet the reluctance from certain fans seems misguided. Swift attends games to support Kelce and the Chiefs without seeking attention or using it as a platform for self-promotion. Barkley believes she deserves a warmer reception for her genuine support.
