After watching Serena Williams perform at the Super Bowl LIX halftime show, both Howard Stern and Stephen A. Smith concluded that she is not a suitable spouse. Williams made a brief appearance during Kendrick Lamar’s performance of Not Like Us, a diss track aimed at his musical rival, Drake. This moment grabbed attention not just for her presence but also because of her past relationship with Drake over a decade ago.
On Monday morning’s episode of First Take, Stephen A. Smith criticized Williams for appearing to still be concerned with trolling Drake, despite her marriage to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian since 2017. Smith even suggested that he would divorce Williams over her Super Bowl appearance, a provocative stance that Stern eagerly backed on Tuesday.
“He’s got a point. I hear what he’s saying,” Stern remarked. “By dissing Drake at the Super Bowl, it shows she’s still involved in that whole scenario. He’s right. I agree with Stephen A.” Robin Quivers made sure Stern was aware of what he was agreeing to, noting that Smith stated, “I would divorce that woman.”
Stephen A. Smith on Serena Williams’ cameo during the Super Bowl halftime show: “If I’m married and my wife is going to join trolling her ex, go back to his ass. ‘Cause clearly you don’t belong with me. What you worried about him for and you’re with me? Bye. Bye.” pic.twitter.com/uiYI2ltK4k

“If I’m married and my wife is going to join trolling her ex, go back to his ass. ‘Cause clearly you don’t belong with me,” Smith reiterated on the episode of First Take. “What you worried about him for and you’re with me? Bye. Bye.”
Stern not only concurred with Smith’s opinion, but he also seemed envious that Smith articulated it first. “I would too. Why not?” he asked. “Did it get him some press? Me too! Can someone put me in that article please? I can use some press.” Smith certainly gained publicity from his remarks, and we’re pleased to oblige Stern’s request for attention as well.
