DeAndre Hopkins Responds to Retirement Rumors from Fake Adam Schefter Account, Then Deletes Post

The Kansas City Chiefs acquired five-time Pro Bowler DeAndre Hopkins to reinforce their pursuit of a third consecutive Super Bowl title. However, the plan didn’t unfold as expected, culminating in the Chiefs’ loss in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday night. This defeat sparked various false narratives on social media regarding Hopkins’ future in the NFL.

After being traded to Kansas City ahead of their Week 8 game, Hopkins failed to make the anticipated impact, particularly during the playoffs, where he recorded only three receptions. This setback leaves the 32-year-old former All-Pro entering the 2025 season following the worst statistical performance of his career, raising questions about the interest he might attract as he approaches free agency.

On Monday, a fake Adam Schefter account on X added to the speculation about Hopkins’ future, claiming in a viral post that he had informed Chiefs head coach Andy Reid of his plans to retire after Sunday’s loss.

On Tuesday, Hopkins responded to the fake report in a now-deleted post, as captured by DraftKings Network on X, where he stated his intent to continue his NFL career in 2025. “Don’t know what you heard but I’m not done yet,” he wrote.

The swift deletion of his post raises questions: Does it suggest he needs more time before confirming his return for next season? Or is he simply trying to minimize attention toward the misleading Adam Schefter account?

Regardless, all signs point to Hopkins playing in 2025. It remains to be seen if the Chiefs will express interest in re-signing him after a brief tenure that many fans would prefer to forget.
