The Oregon Ducks softball program has established itself as one of the top teams in the nation. As they join the Big Ten, Oregon continues to showcase its strength, with one of their freshman stars already making headlines. After the first weekend of play concluded on Sunday, the Big Ten announced its players of the week, and freshman catcher Emma Cox from Thornton, Colorado, received the Freshman of the Week Award for her remarkable performance.
The Ducks competed in the UNLV Desert Classic, finishing with a perfect 5-0 record. Cox shone at the plate, boasting a .500 batting average, which included two home runs and a staggering slugging percentage of .944. Such exceptional numbers truly highlight her impact over the weekend.
Oregon has been a frequent participant in the Women’s College World Series, making the journey to Oklahoma City five times since 2012 and six times overall. The Ducks have also competed in the NCAA Softball Tournament for the past four years and aim to extend that streak to five in 2025.
With a strong start like this, the Ducks are poised for continued success under head coach Melyssa Lombardi.
