The Los Angeles Dodgers have had one of the busiest offseasons in Major League Baseball, cleaning up the free agent market this winter by signing pitchers Blake Snell, Rori Sasaki, Tanner Scott, and Kirby Yates to significant contracts. Recently, Los Angeles shifted its focus to position players when utility fielder and fan favorite Enrique Hernandez announced on social media that he would be returning to the Dodgers for another season.

Hernandez, who had brief stints with the Miami Marlins and Houston Astros in 2014, was traded to the Dodgers before the 2015 season, where he established himself by playing multiple positions. Over six seasons with the team from 2015 to 2020, he appeared in 648 games, recording 400 hits and 68 home runs while playing eight positions, excluding catcher.
After the Dodgers’ 2020 World Series victory, Hernandez opted for free agency, signing a two-year deal with the Boston Red Sox. His tenure in Boston was notable, with him achieving a career-high 127 hits and 20 home runs in 134 games during his first season. He later signed a one-year deal to remain with Boston in 2023, but was traded back to Los Angeles in July when the Red Sox fell out of contention. Since his return, he has played eight of nine positions for the Dodgers, again excluding catcher.
Notably, Hernandez won the 2024 World Series with the Dodgers, marking the second championship of his career. Currently, the Dodgers do not have a spot on the 40-man roster for him, but with rosters opening this week, teams can place injured players on the 60-day IL, potentially creating a spot for him.
