Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has consistently been a strong candidate for a studio analyst role as he contemplates his future away from coaching. During Fox’s pregame coverage of Super Bowl LIX, McVay may have taken his first steps towards making this transition a reality. Speculation surrounding McVay’s future in Los Angeles has gained traction over the past few offseasons, especially with reported interest from multiple networks looking to possibly hire him for a studio analyst position.
This interest remains steadfast, as indicated by The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, who reported on Thursday that he believes McVay could earn up to $100 million from several networks if he decides to make the leap into broadcasting. Despite this, McVay expressed just last offseason that he is content in Los Angeles and has no immediate plans to leave coaching for a TV job. Nevertheless, he joined the Fox studio team right before kickoff for Super Bowl LIX, subtly showcasing his Super Bowl championship ring and emphasizing his preference for coaching in the big game.
“I love being here with you guys. Much rather be coaching, but this is a subtle flex on ya,” McVay remarked as the camera zoomed in on his championship ring. “This is something else. This ring, it’s absurd but what a great experience.”

Later, the former Super Bowl-winning coach highlighted both teams’ strengths in a preview of the big game, noting the importance for the Eagles to involve Saquon Barkley and for the Chiefs to let Patrick Mahomes be their “Michael Jordan,” controlling the game from the onset. “I think it’s an unbelievable matchup,” McVay stated. “Two great teams. Offensively if I am Kansas City, I am saying, ‘Hey, Mahomes go and be Michael Jordan.’ That’s what you’ve been against Houston and Buffalo. You’ve got to be able to win in various ways. We’re going to need that tonight. On defense, we must tackle well on early downs to earn the right to rush. We need to get Spags’ blitz package going.”
“On the flip side, let’s get Saquon (Barkley) vertical seams in the run game. Allow Freddie Kruger, the scariest back in the league, to perform. And then defensively, can we affect Patrick Mahomes with a four-man rush? Play a loaded zone behind it and employ sticky coverage. Let’s go; it should be a tremendous opportunity to see these teams go at it.”

While McVay’s passion for coaching remains evident, this recent appearance may also serve as an initial signal to networks that he could be an ideal candidate for a potential move to television in the future.
