Super Bowl LIX was a challenging outing for Patrick Mahomes, despite the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback having a few highlights.
The NFL emphasized his performance, noting he completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 257 yards with three touchdowns against two interceptions. However, a brief YouTube clip titled “Patrick Mahomes best plays from 3-TD game vs. Eagles” might lead you to believe he had a stellar game, yet his effort wasn’t quite as heroic as presented.

The clip kicks off with the Philadelphia Eagles leading 34-0, leaving just over two minutes in the third quarter. It gave off major “Chris Paul hits a huge 3 to cut the lead down to 42” vibes. If the NFL aimed to portray Mahomes as a comeback hero, showcasing his plays might have been counterproductive.
Moreover, they conveniently overlooked several crucial moments.
For instance, at halftime, Mahomes recorded only 33 passing yards, marking the fifth-fewest in the first half of a Super Bowl. This was not the legacy he envisioned in New Orleans, as he faced multiple interceptions, including a pick-six by Cooper DeJean.

These were certainly the lowlights of his performance. Nonetheless, credit goes to the NFL for attempting to uncover a silver lining—perhaps a bit too vigorously. If they were after a redemption narrative, it appears this was not the tale they intended to share.
