When FS1’s Nick Wright speaks up about the Kansas City Chiefs, it’s usually true. After star tight end Travis Kelce claimed this week he could play three more seasons in the NFL, Wright went on his show First Things First and said the exact opposite. Not only does Wright doubt that Kelce can play until age 38, but he also speculates that Super Bowl LIX this Sunday in New Orleans could mark the star’s final game.
“If he cared more about the individual legacy stuff, that in and of itself would be enough to come back one more year,” Wright stated. Kelce is 206 yards and two touchdowns away from surpassing Jerry Rice as the all-time postseason leader in the NFL. However, Wright doesn’t think that milestone will convince Kelce to return, especially if the Chiefs win and secure a three-peat.
“I think that there is a very real chance Sunday’s Travis Kelce’s last game.”

After 11 seasons and four rings, Travis Kelce is indisputably a legend and a future Hall of Famer. He is also too far behind Tony Gonzalez on the regular season leaderboards to keep playing solely to chase the former Kansas City pass catcher. For Kelce, retirement likely hinges on the historic achievement of a three-peat, his health, and financial considerations. Why not go out on top?
Additionally, Kelce has a budding Hollywood career with roles in several television shows and a significant podcast deal with Amazon alongside his hit podcast. Furthermore, his high-profile romance with pop star Taylor Swift could occupy more of his time in the coming years.
While Wright may not possess any insider information, the notion of Kelce’s retirement has already been discussed, and this prediction from sports media’s biggest Chiefs fan is likely to reignite the conversation.
