As Stephen A. Smith continues to explore his political interests, his Fox News friend Sean Hannity seems to be venturing into the sports world. Prepare for a brief 15 seconds of Hannity appearing during Super Bowl LIX on Fox this Sunday evening. Earlier this week, Fox News released a promo showcasing Hannity in a Patrick Mahomes jersey alongside Bret Baier, who represents Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles. Baier will play a more significant role than just being in a commercial, as he is set to conduct a pre-taped interview with Donald Trump that will be featured during Fox’s Super Bowl pregame coverage.
The news of Hannity and Baier starring in a Super Bowl commercial seemed to stun Smith when he appeared on Hannity’s Fox News show. “You? In a Super Bowl ad?” Smith exclaimed. “What the hell is this world coming to? What kind of Super Bowl ad are you gonna be in? You, with your non-sports-knowing self. Talk about staying in your lane; that’s you! Who did this?! Did Trump pull strings to make this happen? I mean, what the hell is going on, Fox?” Hannity countered that Smith is simply envious of his Super Bowl ad appearance.
However, Smith playfully asserted that he would soon be starring in a Super Bowl commercial himself: “My time will come, don’t worry, my time will come. I’ll be in a Super Bowl commercial; you can book that. That’s going to happen.” This possibility might materialize two years from now when ESPN and ABC are set to air the Super Bowl, as ABC will likely feature its ESPN talent during the game in 2027, just like Fox is promoting its cable news hosts.
Additionally, if Smith has any influence, he expects to have more involvement than just a commercial when ABC conducts the Super Bowl. While negotiating his next ESPN contract, Smith has expressed a desire for a role in their NFL coverage, particularly regarding Monday Night Football.
