Obtaining a media credential for Super Bowl week appears to be more accessible than ever. Whether you’re a disgruntled radio host attempting to mock Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes over officiating or inquisitively asking Jalen Hurts for advice on how to achieve his striking appearance, the NFL is eager to accommodate. While it is undoubtedly entertaining, it has also devolved into a somewhat chaotic environment where anything is fair game — including questioning Taylor Swift’s boyfriend about his Kanye West tracks in the pregame playlist.
However, one incident from this year’s Super Bowl media day elevated the absurdity. An unidentified reporter asked Eagles rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell how he had “grown” since the previous Super Bowl — a question that raised eyebrows since Mitchell was still a junior at Toledo during the 2023 Super Bowl. His astonishment was palpable as he processed the evidently erroneous question, wondering how he could reflect on an experience that he had not had.

Mitchell’s bewilderment deepened as he sought clarity: “You said the last Super Bowl?” “Yes, sir.” “Uh, I mean, I wasn’t here, so…” It truly was a moment of disbelief.
It turns out this bizarre inquiry was a ploy for viral clout. TikTok influencer Joe Bonham (@joebonham) uploaded the incident with the caption, “CLUELESS reporter asks Quinyon Mitchell about his last Super Bowl… it’s his first SB.”

Further investigation revealed that Bonham, the one posing the question, had a TikTok account filled with Super Bowl media day content. Notably, one clip features an unidentified female reporter asking Christian McCaffrey about his “last” Super Bowl in a very similar manner to the inquiry posed to Mitchell.

Ultimately, it seems that this incident was merely an attempt at going viral through sheer absurdity, and judging by the attention it’s garnered, it’s clear that it has succeeded.
