The Ohio State Buckeyes have announced a well-deserved contract extension for head coach Ryan Day, following their National Championship win last month. It was expected that an extension would be finalized soon, and on Thursday, reports confirmed that the deal is now official. With recent changes in staff due to some attrition after their title win, Ohio State has been actively reshuffling their coaching roster.
The contract extends for seven years, running through 2031, with Letterman Row reporting Thursday morning that Day’s annual salary will be $12.5 million, representing a significant raise for the accomplished head coach. Day boasts an impressive record of 70-10 at OSU, never winning fewer than 11 games in a season, including a remarkable 14-win campaign last year during which Ohio State clinched the National Championship.
As the season progressed, extending Day’s contract became a contentious issue among frustrated Buckeye fans, especially since Ohio State has not defeated their rival Michigan since 2019. Many fans saw this season as “title or bust,” and with their championship victory, their desires have been fulfilled, culminating in Day’s well-earned reward. Recently, Day and Ohio State have also worked on finalizing their coaching staff, promoting Brian Hartline to offensive coordinator after losing Chip Kelly to the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders.
