Fan reveals Jimmy Butler trade to Miami Heat bench during live game

While most NBA fans learned about Jimmy Butler’s trade to the Golden State Warriors through ESPN’s Shams Charania, Butler’s former Miami Heat teammates got the news from an unexpected source—a fan sitting courtside. The news broke on Wednesday as the Heat faced the Philadelphia 76ers. A fan, presumably a Heat supporter, shared the trade details with some Heat players from their seat behind the bench at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.

“We got Kyle Anderson, Dennis Schröder and Andrew Wiggins. We robbed them,” the fan said. When Kevin Love inquired further, the fan mentioned that the Heat received a protected first-round pick, although he wasn’t sure of the year.

Minutes later, while some details were confirmed, others were inaccurate. Schröder is not headed to Miami but to the Utah Jazz, Golden State’s opponent that day. Charania initially reported Anderson going to the Toronto Raptors but later clarified that “Miami is working through a resolution with Kyle Anderson,” adding that he could either stay or be moved.

Regarding the pick, Chris Haynes reported that “Golden State is sending Miami a 2025 Top 10 protected first. Next year it’s Top 10 protected, then unprotected in the following year.” Given the chaotic situation, we can forgive the fan for not knowing the full details in the moment.
