Alabama quarterback prospect Jalen Milroe is projected to be one of the top quarterback talents in the 2025 NFL Draft this April. On Wednesday, he firmly stated that he intends to play exclusively as a quarterback in the NFL. In a discussion with Pro Football Talk, Milroe revealed that he has faced questions about switching positions during his college career. However, he likened such inquiries to “asking a zebra to be a dog.” “No, it’s always quarterback,” Milroe said. “Of course, the question’s asked — switching positions, something like that, what I can do. But you never ask a zebra to be a dog.”
Milroe certainly possesses the athleticism required for an NFL quarterback, but his accuracy came under scrutiny this past season, highlighted by a career-high 11 interceptions. Still, he is confident that his dedication, which includes studying top quarterbacks, alongside his strong work ethic, will lead an NFL team to take a chance on him as a quarterback. “One thing I’ve done this past offseason is watch NFL tape,” Milroe shared. “So watching (Joe) Burrow, (Brock) Purdy, and Geno Smith. A unique trait of all of them is that they play on time, maintain pocket integrity, and exhibit efficient footwork in the pocket. Their body movements help them make every throw on the field. In certain scenarios, perfect ball placement will beat perfect coverage every time. So just knowing where your hots are is key.”
“Just watching that tape, seeing those guys perform each Sunday… It’s inspiring because that’s where I want to be in the future.” Milroe’s impressive athleticism and arm talent have led many draft experts to speculate that teams may consider him as a potential selection near the end of Day 1 or the early portions of Day 2 during the draft. However, it will be intriguing to observe how this anticipated interest evolves after Milroe’s clear declaration that his sole focus is on playing quarterback in the NFL.
