Bill Burr wants Colin Cowherd to acknowledge he was mistaken about Baker Mayfield. Although Cowherd seems to have softened his stance on Mayfield, it doesn’t necessarily mean he believes in him as his team’s leader or that he hasn’t considered bringing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback into his media company.
This is the same Cowherd who has previously criticized Mayfield for being a poor teammate, donning a backward hat, and believing in aliens. However, Mayfield possesses one trait that Cowherd believes is essential for any great quarterback: a wife. Despite previously labeling Mayfield as “undraftable,” Cowherd clearly doesn’t view the quarterback as unhireable.
This shift hasn’t yet swayed Burr, who was on Julian Edelman’s Games With Names podcast discussing his ongoing joke: “The last three presidential elections, we’re picking presidents the way the Browns pick quarterbacks. We’re in this vortex; we got to get out of it.” This led Edelman to inquire who Burr thinks the Baker Mayfield of U.S. Presidents might be. Well, his middle name is Reagan…
“I love f*cking Baker Mayfield,” Burr stated. “And you know what? I love that Colin Cowherd has to stay up at night, knowing he was wrong — but can’t bring himself to admit it. His desk is only going to keep getting bigger while I’ll still have to see a physical therapist after looking up during those interviews I did on his show.”
It’s all in good fun, as Burr has often poked fun at Cowherd’s peculiar grudge against Mayfield, even roasting the FS1 host for seven straight minutes on The Herd. Nevertheless, Burr doesn’t anticipate Cowherd will issue any major apologies soon. Cowherd has built his persona on stubborn opinions, and retracting them is not in his nature, despite the evident evidence against some of his claims. Perhaps his desk will only continue to grow, creating further distance from the opinions he refuses to acknowledge were incorrect.
