The Cincinnati Bengals face the potential loss of several key players to free agency in the coming years. One pivotal player, star edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, has made his intentions clear: he wants to remain in Cincinnati. Hendrickson was a significant contributor to the Bengals’ defense last season, leading the NFL with 17.5 sacks. However, he is nearing the end of his contract, which raises concerns among fans.
With the Bengals needing to re-sign not only Hendrickson but also Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase, the situation becomes complicated as it may be challenging to secure all three under contracts that satisfy them. While many speculate that Higgins could be the odd one out, Hendrickson may also command substantial money in free agency after his standout season.
Fortunately, Hendrickson has expressed a strong desire to remain in Cincinnati, provided the financial terms are agreeable. In a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, he shared, “If it’s something we can agree on in terms, that would be great. Ideally, my wife and I would love to stay in Cincinnati.” He further emphasized his commitment to the team’s success, stating, “If it’s something that helps the Bengals win the Super Bowl, I want to help win a Super Bowl for Cincinnati, whether I’m there or not.”
Given the struggles of the Bengals’ defense last season, retaining their best player is crucial for the organization’s ambitions, especially as they seek to rebound from a disappointing year in which they missed the playoffs.
