I’m Unconcerned with the Content

Myles Garrett’s trade demand from the Cleveland Browns has likely filled the programming schedule for the city’s sports talk shows for the next month or more. Just hours after the news broke on Monday, one of Cleveland’s prominent radio hosts, Ken Carman of 92.3 The Fan, expressed his discontent about the situation.

Carman would much prefer to discuss the Browns’ plans for the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Cavaliers’ NBA Finals hopes, or the Guardians reporting for Spring Training. He believes that Garrett’s trade request is detrimental to the Browns, and ultimately, the host of The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima wishes to see his city’s sports teams succeed. “One of the worst things about this Myles request is no fewer than a dozen people have told me ‘hey, at least it’s content,’” he wrote on X. “I’ll take it to my grave, I do not care about the content. I want them to be good. As God as my witness I just want all three teams here to be good.”

Some might accuse Carman of pandering to his fanbase, but those who have followed him recognize the sincerity in his words. This genuine connection with the audience has solidified his status as a beloved radio host in Cleveland. Carman isn’t one to shy away from vocalizing the sentiments of local fans, even going so far as to hang up on callers who remind him of how well Baker Mayfield is performing in Tampa Bay.

Rather than take a divided stance as pro-Browns or anti-Myles, Carman’s approach reflects the feelings of many Cleveland fans grappling with the trade request. His authenticity has built significant rapport with his audience, which carries more weight than any contrived position. Ultimately, Garrett’s trade demand is shaping up to be one of the biggest stories of the NFL offseason, well ahead of the Super Bowl. Consequently, Carman will be discussing it extensively in the days, weeks, and months ahead, all the while wishing he didn’t have to.
