For years, it has been a tradition for the President of the United States to engage in an interview with the network airing the Super Bowl. While Joe Biden opted out of participating in the past two years—missing a chance to reach a vast audience—Donald Trump is embracing the opportunity to revive this tradition and eclipsing Biden’s absence.
This weekend, Fox will air Super Bowl LIX, featuring an eagerly awaited matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. Ahead of the thrilling game, Donald Trump has agreed to a sit-down interview scheduled for the pregame coverage. On Monday, Fox News confirmed that Trump participated in an extensive interview with anchor Bret Baier, where he discussed various topics, including the changes made by his administration since taking office last month.
“Fox News Channel’s chief political anchor Bret Baier will conduct a wide-ranging interview with President Donald Trump during the Fox Super Bowl Sunday pregame show on February 9,” Fox News announced on Monday. The pre-taped interview occurred at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, and will air during the 3 p.m. ET hour on Super Bowl Sunday. Baier asked Trump about the changes enacted by his administration since the Inauguration and during the first 100 days of his presidency, coinciding with FOX’s broadcast of Super Bowl LIX from New Orleans, Louisiana, at 6:30 p.m. ET.
While presidential interviews during the Super Bowl have been a longstanding tradition, this will be the first instance of a president participating since 2022, following Biden’s refusal in the previous years. With Trump seizing the opportunity to engage in an interview after Biden’s declines, he emphasizes his intention to stand out and connect with a massive television audience. This will mark Trump’s second interview with Fox News since his recent inauguration, following his January conversation with Sean Hannity, and it will be Baier’s first one-on-one interview with Trump since June 2023.
As for the game itself, the Kansas City Chiefs will square off against the Philadelphia Eagles in a highly anticipated rematch of Super Bowl LVII, where the Chiefs emerged victorious to conclude the 2023 season. Should the Chiefs secure another win on Sunday, they would become the first team in NFL history to claim three consecutive Super Bowl titles.
