For decades, it has been a tradition for the President of the United States to participate in a television interview with the network broadcasting the Super Bowl. While Joe Biden opted out of this tradition for the past two years, Donald Trump is set to revive it. This weekend, Fox will air Super Bowl LIX, featuring a highly anticipated showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. Ahead of the big game, Trump has agreed to partake in the traditional sit-down interview with Fox during the pregame coverage.
On Monday, Fox News confirmed that Trump sat down for an extensive interview with anchor Bret Baier, addressing various topics, including changes implemented by his administration since taking office last month. The pre-recorded interview is scheduled to be broadcast nationally before the game. “Fox News Channel’s chief political anchor Bret Baier will conduct a wide-ranging interview with President Donald Trump during the Fox Super Bowl Sunday pregame show on February 9,” Fox News announced on Monday. The interview took place at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, and will air in the 3 p.m. ET hour on Super Bowl Sunday, where Baier will discuss the changes enacted by the administration since the Inauguration and the first 100 days of Trump’s presidency, just before FOX broadcasts Super Bowl LIX from New Orleans, Louisiana, at 6:30 p.m. ET.
Though presidential Super Bowl interviews have long been a staple, this marks the first participation since 2022, following Biden’s decision not to take part in the last two years. This will also be Trump’s second interview with Fox News since taking office last month, succeeding his January conversation with Sean Hannity; however, it is the first time Baier has conducted a one-on-one interview with Trump since June 2023.
As for the game itself, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles are set for a highly anticipated rematch of Super Bowl LVII, where the Chiefs emerged victorious to close out the 2023 season. If the Chiefs secure another win on Sunday, they will make history as the first NFL team to claim three consecutive Super Bowl titles.
