Colin Cowherd, who had to leave The Herd unexpectedly on Monday due to illness, is anticipated to make his return on Thursday for Super Bowl LIX coverage in New Orleans. Jason McIntyre stepped in to host in Cowherd’s absence, reassuring viewers that Cowherd was improving but still not well enough to return the next day. However, he confirmed that Cowherd aims to be back for their Thursday show in New Orleans.
“Colin is out sick, but he’ll be back Thursday at the Super Bowl. We’ll be live from New Orleans,” McIntyre remarked. “He tells me he’s going to treat me to all these expensive meals down there. I’m like, ‘Dude, I don’t know if I want to sit next to you if you’re sick.’ But he assures me he’s fine and will be okay.” During Monday’s show opener, Cowherd appeared visibly exhausted before needing to pause due to his declining health.

“Folks, I’m gonna take a break,” Cowherd stated. “I am getting very, very sick, very, very quickly on this set. And we will return.” Following this, The Herd’s social media team reassured fans that Cowherd was “doing ok,” and he later expressed gratitude for the support, confirming he would recover.
On Tuesday, McIntyre mentioned Cowherd was feeling better but pointed out that another staff member had fallen ill, indicating whatever Cowherd experienced might be spreading. They want to ensure not to rush Cowherd back considering the high-profile nature of their Super Bowl LIX coverage from New Orleans.
With Fox hosting the Super Bowl this NFL season, Cowherd’s return to the network is crucial, especially given the recent sexual assault lawsuits affecting FS1, in which Cowherd was not named. Given the significance of his presence in New Orleans, it’s prudent not to hurriedly bring him back while the show is still based in Los Angeles.
