Andy Reid announces his retirement plans

Around this time last year, there was considerable speculation regarding Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid’s potential retirement. However, Reid is not allowing those discussions to linger this year. On Monday night, Kansas City Chiefs team owner Clark Hunt stated unequivocally that he expects Reid to return next season, irrespective of the outcome of Super Bowl LIX. “I know for a fact he’ll be back next season,” Hunt said, according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic.

Reid confirmed this news himself in his press conference, stating, “Yes, I’ll be back,” as reported by Pro Football Talk. While Reid has the opportunity to become the winningest coach in league history or to surpass Bill Belichick in terms of Super Bowl titles, he insists that these milestones are not his motivations for continuing to coach. “That’s not part of it,” Reid said. “I just enjoy teaching. I don’t get caught up much in the stats or the records. I enjoy being around the guys. I enjoy football, the game. You can’t put in the hours we do and not enjoy it. I love the game.” Regardless of his reasons, the Chiefs are certainly pleased to have him back.
