Since his departure from ESPN, Zach Lowe has largely kept a low profile. However, in light of the Los Angeles Lakers’ surprising acquisition of Luka Dončić in a blockbuster trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks, the former host of The Lowe Post felt compelled to share his insights.
Despite no longer having the rights to his podcast, Lowe took to a longform format, creating an almost 18-minute solo video podcast to discuss the historic trade, rather than simply posting a few short thoughts on X, as he has occasionally done since leaving ESPN last September. “Welcome to — whatever this is,” he began, echoing his signature intro to The Lowe Post. “I’m a little rusty, bear with me. It’s going to be a little shorter than it used to. The Lowe Post podcast is gone. It’s not going to be an hour and 20 minutes of me jabbering with my friends about this trade. But you know I could not resist weighing in on the most shocking trade in the history of the NBA — the entire history of it. And one of the most shocking moments in the history of sports.”

Lowe spent almost 20 minutes analyzing the trade, which caught so many off guard that it led to speculation about whether ESPN’s Shams Charania had been hacked when he first reported it. While plenty of coverage followed — including an emergency edition of The Bill Simmons Podcast — Lowe’s take was a much-appreciated addition, highlighting why he is cherished in NBA media.
Regarding his future, Lowe offered little insight aside from expressing, “I miss you all and I hope to talk to you soon. More trades are coming. Bye bye,” as he signed off. Presumably, the 47-year-old is awaiting the end of his ESPN contract before making his next move. Given that his mini video podcast has garnered over 2.8 million views as of Monday morning, it’s hard to see any reason why he wouldn’t be at the forefront of another outlet’s NBA coverage by now.
